Taking Back Sunday - Louder Now
In a genre that is spawning a dozen bands a day, Taking Back Sunday prove why they are at the top of the business. Taking Back Sunday blew the scene away with their first release ‘Tell All Your Friends’ in 2002. ‘Cute Without the E (Cut From The Team)’ became a huge favorite, earning Taking Back Sunday notorioty amongst the Warped Tour crowd. After the departure of two members including current Straylight Run frontman John Nolan, Taking Back Sunday avoided the sophomore slump with 2004’s ‘Where You Want To Be’. Taking them to the top, ‘Where You Want To Be’ had many fans, including some major labels. Warner Brothers were the company lucky enough to sign Taking Back Sunday for their third studio album, ‘Louder Now’. A highly anticipated release, Louder Now took over the charts in spring of 2006. The cd starts out with ‘Whats It Feel Like To Be A Ghost?’ whose opening guitar hook sets the mood for the remaining twelve songs: catchy. The entire cd is filled with songs destined for ring-tones and sold-out sing-along crowds. ‘Liar (It Takes One To Know One)’ ‘ Up Against (Blackout)’ and ‘Twenty-Twenty Surgery’ provide all the right material and will fill any Taking Back Sunday’s needs. ‘Makedamnsure’ is the single to sell all singles. With a popular music video to accompany it, the song broke onto MTV and spread onto radio stations across the country. Showing their softer side, but also the weaker side of the album are ‘My Blue Heaven’ and ‘Divine Intervention’. The three most impressive songs on the album come after the midpoint of the cd. ‘Error Operator’ originally debuted on the 2005 soundtrack for ‘The Fantastic Four’. Rerecorded for ‘Louder Now’, the song along with ‘Spin’ and ‘Miami’ prove the album title true. ‘Spin’ is Fred Mascherino’s shinning moment. In a genre that rarely embraces the guitar solo, Fred Mascherino breaks the mold. His guitar playing on this cd blows all of his previous work away. Mascherino is not the only member who has improved their musicianship. Taking Back Sunday return as a tighter, better band than ever before. ‘Louder Now’ is full of catchy songs that should be played loudly. This cd provides hope that Taking Back Sunday may finally be able to top the huge standard they set for themselves on ‘Tell All Your Friends’. If emo/pop-punk is your style, this cd is a must.
